Living in McLean!!

My rm group!
Ah, I saved the best for last! Living in Mclean has been by far the best experience as of yet. I love my hallmates! When I first arrived at Trinity, I was so nervous I didn't know what to think. The second I stepped into Mclean I knew I was at home- and I was so excited about it! Moving in was a rush and SO much fun. It was crazy to meet so many people at once! Everyone made me feel at home though. My roommate, Kelsey, is awesome and we get along great. But the best part of living in Mclean is all the awesome stuff we do! My RM, Connor, schedules silly random crafts for us to do, so we can get to know each other better. We also have baking sessions and make food like brownies and cake. Plus, we won two rounds of Hallympics (Quizbowl and kickball, no big deal) with our great teamwork! We all participate in dunking each other in the fountain on each other's birthdays, and we mingle in and out of each other's rooms all the time- It's only been 3 months but I feel like I found my family here at Trinity.

Working in the Psychology Department

the secretary, lillian!
The first week of college was full of fun and adventure. However, once classes started and I began to be weighed down with a ridiculous amount of homework, it didn’t seem to be so fantastic anymore. And even worse, I had to get a job! UGH. (For any of you that don’t know me… I’m allergic to pretty much any kind of work or effort.) However, when I walked into the psychology department to apply for a federal work study job, I felt it wouldn’t be so bad. Boy, that day sure did give me the wrong first impression! I waited approximately an hour and a half to interview, but the supervisor never showed. I left my name and number and hoped for the best. This seemed to do the trick, since I got the job. Although I was wary at first, (mostly because I didn’t want to sit around for an hour and a half doing nothing again) working in the psychology department is not so bad. I get to meet all of the psychology professors, which is extremely helpful since I plan on majoring in the subject. Also, my work isn’t hard and I get along with my supervisor great. Plus, I get paid! AWESOME!!

Rush 2010

When I first came to Trinity, I told myself that I would NOT join a sorority, or even rush for that matter. However, sororities at Trinity seem pretty hard to escape. Even on move-in day there were countless flyers for sororities posted on my door. Of course, I took them down right away. Then, at the first party I was invited to, several Spurs and Gamma girls swarmed my roommate and me to convince us to rush! My roommate had the same attitude about rushing that I did, it seemed silly and unnecessary. After the girls spent quite a few minutes persuading us, we started to consider rushing- but never would we pledge. In the month between that first party and rush kick-off, I somehow got back into my original mindset of not wanting to rush. But my friends dragged me to the kick-off, where I met some really nice girls. I still wasn't convinced. I refused to send my name in for rush and stayed stubborn. My roommate, on the other hand, decided to sign up. She has been ridiculously busy attending events and meeting up for brunches with the sisters of Sigma, Zeta, etc. Last night I found myself with absolutely nothing to do (extremely rare) and a hungry stomach. Although my name was not on the rushee list, I decided to head to the 'Road Trip' Gamma party with friends who were rushing to get my grub on. When I was there, everybody seemed to have such a tight bond, and was so friendly to the first years. They put on a few skits which were welcoming and hilarious. Suddenly, I felt the urge to start rushing. Why was I so opposed to it anyway? I surrendered and put my name on the list. Hopefully last night was the first of many enjoyable rush experiences to come.

Exercise!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/yuan2003/841942724/

My first month at Trinity has been very hectic. My classes have loaded my schedule with homework and studying, so much that I don’t have much time to do anything else! Of course, I have been taking advantage of the few hours I do have for sleeping and eating. Mmmm…food. Well, as much as I do enjoy these ‘activities’, I promised myself before I came to college that I would not gain the freshman 15! Luckily, I have what seems to be a very simple solution for this matter: EXERCISE! For my P.E. credit, I enrolled myself in Introduction to Running, which yes, does seem like it would be a very laid-back class. However, running for 40 minutes straight every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday really wears me out. We even have to run a 5K by the end of the semester. Considering I haven’t run like this for over three years, this is going to prove to be a very difficult task. So what do I do? I have to get myself in shape, that’s what! From now on, the days I have off of this class, you will be able to find me in the gym, instead of sleeping in my bed. I plan on working out every day in some way, shape, or form. Freshman 15…you have met your match.

Bad Movie Club

My first attempt at not being lazy and getting involved at Trinity brought me to Bad Movie Club, a club where you watch ridiculously awful and poorly-made films and make fun of them by yelling out puns. I came upon this amusing organization by going to the student involvement fair, which I consider another feat since I was feeling particularly lethargic that day. (If you can’t tell already, I like to spend a lot of my time asleep – therefore, it is of great interest to me to see how this project will turn out.) I was immediately drawn to this club, however, since I love movies in general, but especially bad ones. I was a little wary about going, though, because the first movie being shown was titled Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and I absolutely despise clowns. Despite this fact, I decided to attend the showing with my suitemate. It ended up being one of the best experiences I’ve ever had watching a movie. We were having fun before the movie ever started. We started off the night by watching ridiculous videos on youtube, like the “Bed Intruder Song”. (If you have not seen this I highly recommend it.) When the movie began, I knew it was going to be spectacular. The acting alone was atrocious. It was made even better by people yelling out puns throughout the movie, some a little too inappropriate to put on a blog for school. By the end of the movie, my sides were splitting I had been laughing so hard. I left the room extremely glad that I went, and even wanting to go again. It seems that getting involved actually has its perks sometimes.
